Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is one of the famous short treks in Nepal that explore the lower Annapurna region. It is a 9 days program perfect for those looking for a quick and easy venture in the Himalayas of Nepal. The Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking is suitable for all age groups. The Poon hill trek offers a perfect introduction to trekking in the Himalayas to beginner trekkers. You learn about the Himalayan trail, the valleys, the villages, and the lush forests. The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek route is resided by people from different communities. You'll get to have a peek into their daily lifestyle and culture. The locals are very welcoming and friendly.

The trail goes inside the Annapurna Conservation Area. You can expect a lot of encounters with exotic flora and fauna. Most of the trekking route is covered with lush rhododendrons, oak, and bamboo. The chirping of birds, gushing rivers, and refreshing air will rejuvenate your soul. The diverse landscapes and mountain views are surreal. 

Ghorepani village is known for the views of the mountains it offers. Likewise, from Poon Hill, you get to witness a stretching view of the western Himalayan mountains. Snow-capped vistas like Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna South (7,219 m), Annapurna III (7,555 m), Annapurna IV (7,525 m), Nilgiri (7,061 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Fishtail(6,993 m), Hiunchuli (6,441 m), Tukuche (6,920 m), Gangapurna (7,455 m), etc, are seen along the Ghorepani Poon Hill trail.

Meet the team of Nepal Dream at the terminal gate of Tribhuvan International Airport holding your nameplate or company banner. They will be at the airport to welcome you and guide you to the hotel. You have the remaining day free in Nepal. Later in the day, meet with other team members over welcome dinner. You can look around the busy streets of Thamel before returning to the hotel.

Today, we have an exciting day ahead of us. After breakfast, our team will meet you in the hotel lobby. We will introduce you to the tour guide, who will take you to different historical sites in Kathmandu. You will visit the famous Monkey Temple and Pashupatinath temple. From here, we will take you to Boudhnath Stupa and end the tour exploring palaces, courtyards, and temples in Kathmandu Durbar Square. 

Today's tour will give you a general insight into the Nepali market and lifestyle. You will learn a lot about Nepali traditions and history on this tour. In the late evening, we'll introduce you to the trek guide, and we'll do some preparations for the Poon Hill trek.

We will have a leisure morning today with a delicious breakfast. After breakfast, we will get ready to leave Kathmandu and drive to Pokhara. Leaving Kathmandu valley, we will follow a zigzag road along the verdant hillside and Trishuli river to Pokhara. On the way, we get to see snow-capped mountain views in the distance. 

Upon reaching Pokhara, we will check in at the hotel, and the guide will leave you alone to rest. In the evening, it's best to enjoy the tranquility of Phewa Lake and the beautiful sunset with a view of Mt. Fishtail. The Lakeside Market bustle is the perfect end to our day.

We begin this morning with a warm breakfast. Shortly after that, we'll leave our hotel and drive to Nayapul, from where the Poon Hill trek begins. It is a short one-hour drive. From Nayapul, we'll begin trekking on an uneven trail to Tikhedhunga. The trail goes through a forested path and crosses a bridge right before reaching Tikhedhunga. 

Further, we trek on an uphill route to Ulleri. To reach Ulleri, we have to climb around 3000 staircases. It is a bit of a difficult part of the trail. However, if you maintain your pace and walk slowly, you will make it to Ulleri without getting too tired.

Leaving Ulleri, we begin trekking, enjoying stunning panoramas of the snow-capped mountains like Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, Nilgiri, etc. The trail ascends through lush rhododendron forests to Nanghethani at 2,460 meters. From here, we keep trekking through dense forests to the beautiful Ghorepani village. 

Ghorepani is a famous village in the Annapurna region because of the mountain views this village offers. This village is home to Gurungs and Magars. However, Ghorepani is also a well-known Gurkha recruitment place.

Today, early in the morning, we'll hike to Poon Hill. It is the highlight of this trek. From Ghorepani, it is a well-paved trail to Poon hill that goes through rhododendron trees. Upon reaching Poon Hill, we will get to witness gorgeous sunrises along with 270-degree mountain views around us. Mountains like the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, Tukuche, Nilgiri, Fishtail, etc will stretch in front of our eyes.

After enjoying the view, we will descend to Ghorepani village and have breakfast. Now it is time to trek to Tadapani. From Ghorepani, the trail passes through groves of oak and rhododendron to Deurali at 2,960 meters. From here, we will descend via lush forests to Banthanti at 2,606 meters and walk past terraced fields. The trail crosses the Bhurungdi Khola and goes past forests to Tadapani.

It is our last day of the trek today. From Tadapani, we descend to Kimron Khola through forests of oak, rhododendron, and bamboo. From here, the trail ascends to Chomrong village. The trail then drops down to Jhinu Danda, where we will stop for a bit to have lunch and may enjoy the natural hot springs. 

Leaving Jhinu Danda, we will follow a dusty road along the Modi Khola and trek to Siwa. The trek ends here. We will drive back to Pokhara. The evening is free.

We will drive back to Kathmandu today. The drive will be comfortable and scenic, like last time. We will use a nice tourist standard bus for the commute. Upon reaching Kathmandu, the guide will drop you at the hotel. You have the remaining day free to relax and shop. We'll meet you in the late evening over the farewell dinner.

The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek begins from Nayapul. You will trek to Ulleri via Tikhedhunga. The trail follows the forested path and climbs around 3000 staircases before reaching Ulleri. Further, we trek through dense rhododendron forests to Ghorepani village. The following day, you will hike to Poon Hill and descend to Tadapani through Banthanti. 

Crossing the Bhurungdi Khola, drop down to Kimron Khola. The trail ascends through lush forests to Chomrong village and descends to Jhinu Danda. From here, we keep trekking along the Modi Khola to Siwa, where the trek ends. A short drive will take you back to Pokhara.

Poon Hill trek difficulty

Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is an easy to moderate level trek. It is a beginner-friendly trek, so people of any age and experience can participate in it. The trail has long ascents and descents, so you have to be fit enough to tackle those. On average, you will trek 5 to 6 hours a day on Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking. 

Most of the trail runs through dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and bamboo. You will be trekking inside the Annapurna Conservation Area, so expect to come across a variety of flora & fauna. The trail crosses streams and hanging suspension bridges on rivers. The Ghorepani Poon Hill trail distance is approximately 40 km. 

Altitude sickness

Altitude sickness during Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking is very low. It is a very easygoing slow pace trek. There is no sudden drastic change in elevation on this trek. Our Ghorepani Poon Hill trek itinerary sees under 500 meters of elevation gain every day, which will keep you away from altitude sickness. 

Follow the following instructions to avoid altitude sickness during the Poon hill trek:

drink plenty of water and fluid

get ample sleep and eat well food

do not smoke or drink alcoholic beverages

do not ascend more than 500 meters a day

inform your guide if you see any of these symptoms difficulty in breathing, vomiting, insomnia, nausea, etc

Best time to do the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek

The best time to do the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek 9 days is during the spring and autumn seasons. These two seasons have stable weather and a pleasant climate with chill air, which is perfect for trekking. Likewise, the trail gets decorated by colorful rhododendrons and other vegetation. Rivers and waterfalls are at their best. And the mountain views are phenomenal. 

You can also do the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek in winter if you can tolerate the cold. The winter panorama is exceptionally beautiful. Likewise, the snowfall makes the route like a winter wonderland. On the contrary, you have to carry more clothing pieces to keep yourself warm while trekking in winter. 

Travel Insurance

We recommend getting travel insurance for all kinds of the trek in the Himalayas, whether it is easy or tough, short or long. The Poon hill trek route follows the remote Annapurna region. There is no good provision of road or health care service available on the trail. 

So, in case we have to provide you with emergency medical assistance, we have to air evacuate you to a hospital in Pokhara or Kathmandu. We recommend our guests get travel insurance that covers emergency air evacuation and medical bills. 

Accommodation and meals during Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking

You will stay in a three-star hotel in Kathmandu and Pokhara. While trekking, your main accommodation will be a lodge. The lodge has basic accommodations, but you will get a clean and cozy room with an attached washroom to spend the night. There will not be many services available in the lode. 

You may have to pay a few additional bucks for services like WiFi, hot shower, and charging. So, carry enough Nepali cash with you as these expenses are not covered in our Ghorepani Poon Hill trek cost. 

Meals are offered as per the menu of the lodge. There is a wide variety of food available. You have options like roti, curries, dal bhat, dhido, sandwiches, burgers, porridge, soup, noodles, thukpa, momo, pasta, etc. Similarly, drinking water, soft drinks, tea, coffee, etc are also available easily.
