    Useful Information

Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar Trek route

Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar Trek 2022/2023 route begins from Lukla (2,860 m). From here, we descend to Phakding village (2,660 m) where we spend our first night during the trek. Further, the trail passes by Jorsale and Monjo villages before we register our permits at the police checkpoint. The route to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) goes through verdant forests and crosses various suspension bridges. The last couple hundred meters involve steep climbing.

From Namche Bazaar onwards, we hike to the Everest View Hotel (13,000 ft) and pass by lush rhododendron forests to Tengboche village (3,870 m). Our next stop is Pheriche (4,240 m), where we spend the second rest day and hike to Nagrtsang Gompa (5,010 m). We then continue trekking along the grassy plateau to Phulung Kharka and walk on the stone path that leads to Lobuche village (4,940 m).

You have already left the tree line behind and can notice the dry, rocky landscape around you. The last village we pass by is Gorak Shep ((5,160 m), and walk on the glacial path to Everest Base Camp (5,346 m). We spend the night in Gorak Shep, not at EBC, and hike to Kala Patthar (5,644 m) before descending to Pheriche on the same day.

We then continue walking, following the same path and passing by villages like Pangboche, Tengboche, and Namche Bazaar. Our last stop is Monjo before we ascend to Lukla and end the trek.

Everest Base Camp & Kala Patthar Trek difficulty

Our Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar Trek 16 days is a moderate trek. Beginner trekkers can also do this trek if properly prepared. The trekking route is a combination of steep and rough ascents & descents. There are also a handful of glacial walks involved.

The starting part of the trek winds through dense forests. From Dingboche onwards, we leave the tree line behind, and the area gets barren and rocky. Each day, you pass by new villages and walk around 6 to 7 hours on average.

    Altitude Sickness during the trek

Altitude sickness during the Everest Base Camp trek is normal. From Kathmandu to EBC the elevation rises from 1,300 meters to 5,346 meters and goes above and up to Kala Patthar at 5,644 meters. The elevation is huge for any human body and can lead to altitude sickness if not acclimatized.

Our Everest base camp trek itinerary has all the acclimatization days one needs to complete the trek without getting altitude sickness. Likewise, our expert guides also make sure the group is fine, and provide immediate first-aid assistance if needed.

We are not saying you will get altitude sickness during the Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar Trekking. However, even with our best efforts, we cannot make a 100% guarantee that you'll not suffer from it because everybody reacts differently.

Best time to do the Everest Base Camp trek

Trek from March to April and October to November to enjoy the bustle of the Everest Base Camp trek route. The breathtaking mountain views because of the clear sky and pleasant journey thanks to the moderate climate make trekking to EBC in these months phenomenal.

Everything is just perfect in spring and autumn in terms of weather, views, and vegetation. The Lukla and Kathmandu flights are mostly on time. The air has a hint of chillness and the divine aroma of the festivity. Both seasons have some of the biggest festivals celebrated in Nepal.

    Food & Drinks

One thing we love about Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar Trek is the wide variety of food options. From the multi-cuisine menu to well-supplied snack shops along the way, the trekking route to base camp Everest is amazing. You can find many dishes in Lukla and Namche Bazaar to dig in, including steak, pizza, chilies, bakery items, etc.

We recommend you make dal bhat as a staple meal for you during the trek and try to avoid frozen food as much as you can to not get an upset stomach. Our package cost covers breakfast, lunch & dinner during the trek. You can choose as per the menu of the lodge.

    Accommodation

We will be staying in lodges along the trekking route. We provide a comfortable and clean lodge during the trek. The rooms are twin shared unless not asked for a single room in advance. You can expect a small, cozy room with an attached washroom in most of the villages. In some places, the washroom can be shared.
