Useful Information

Namche Bazaar Trek route

Namche Bazaar trek begins with Kathmandu to Lukla flight. On the first day, you fly to Lukla airport and descend to Phakding village. The next day, the trail reaches Monjo, where we'll register our trekking permits and begin walking in the Sagarmatha National Park.

The route between Phakding and Namche Bazaar is very fun. We'll be trekking through lush forests of rhododendron, pine, oak, etc. The trail crosses many lovely streams and suspension bridges decorated with colorful prayer flags. We pass by small villages and may come across wildlife.

At Namche Bazaar, we spend a couple of nights and hike to the Everest View Hotel to acclimatize. If you can walk, we recommend hiking to Khumjung monastery. It is the oldest monastery in the Khumbu region. After spending a couple of nights in Namche Bazaar, we'll follow the same trail back to Lukla.

Namche Bazaar Trek difficulty

Namche Bazaar trek is an easy trek. The trail has ups & downs fair enough to add the zest of adventure to the journey. The most difficult part of Namche Bazaar trekking is the last few hundred meters of ascent from Phakding to Namche Bazaar. That part of the trekking route is a bit steep and can get exhausting.

If you are healthy and fit, then you can do the Namche Bazaar trek. No previous trekking experience is needed for this trek. We also recommend this trek to old age people or someone trekking with kids. The trek is adventurous yet doable.

Altitude Sickness during the Namche Bazaar Trek

The risks of altitude sickness during the Namche Bazaar trek are quite minimal because of the low elevation. The trail has a constant rise in altitude, which allows the trekkers to acclimatize properly.

The elevation rise from Kathmandu to Lukla is huge in one day, therefore we descend to Phakding village, located 3-4 hours walk away from Lukla airport, to spend our first night on the trek. It'll let our body acclimatize before we ascend further towards Namche Bazaar.

Overall, you do not have to worry about altitude sickness during Namche Bazaar trekking. Still, if you see any symptoms like headache, insomnia, loss of appetite, or difficulty in breathing, inform your trek guide.

Best time to do Namche Bazaar Trek

You can trek to Namche Bazaar any time of the year. However, to enjoy the trek to the fullest, trek in spring and autumn. March to April and October to November is the peak trekking season in the Himalayas. The clear sky with phenomenal mountain landscape and moderate climate is just perfect to enjoy every turn on the trail.

The trails are blooming with seasonal vegetation, and the stable weather will keep you on the itinerary. Winter Namche Bazaar trekking is possible but be ready to face delays in the Kathmandu Lukla flight and unstable weather conditions.

Food & Drinks

Namche Bazaar trek offers a good variety of food options ranging from typical Nepal dal bhat to Western & Tibetan dishes. You'll get three meals a day - breakfast, lunch & dinner. All the meals are offered depending upon the menu of the lodge.

To enjoy the trek to the fullest, we recommend choosing dal bhat in your one meal & try living a rural Nepali lifestyle. However, eating delicious pizza and freshly brewed coffee while relishing heavenly mountain panorama is a real deal too.

Try having a balanced diet and choose the best option for your body. For drinks, you get tea, coffee, soft drinks, beer, etc. Drinking water is available in every lodge.

Accommodation

The accommodation during the Namche Bazaar trek is comfortable and clean. If your budget allows, you can also spend the night in the luxury lodges that offer heated mattresses and a private washroom with a hot shower facility.

Our general Namche Bazaar trek package accommodation is decent with twin-sharing small rooms. You may get a private or common washroom. Please remember you are traveling in an extreme part of the world with no access to the road. The lodges and teahouses in the Khumbu region are all basic because of the remoteness of the region.
