Useful Information

Mardi Himal Yoga Trek route

The Mardi Himal Trek route from Pokhara goes to Phedi first. It's a half an hour drive. From here, we trek to Pothana via Dhampus on steep stone stairs. From Pothana onwards, the route ascends through dense forests of rhododendron, oak maple, hemlock, etc to Forest Camp. The next is Low Camp, and the trail is steep & forested.

From Low Camp, the first few hours walk through steep lush forests and then climb on a ridge to High Camp. Following early morning, we walk on Mardi Himal Ridge to the highest point of the trek, Mardi Himal Base Camp, and descend to High Camp on the same day to spend the night.

The trail further drops down to Siding village and passes by small settlement areas before reaching Lumre, where the trek ends. From here, we drive back to Pokhara and eventually to Kathmandu.

Mardi Himal Yoga Trek difficulty

Mardi Himal trek, in general, is graded moderate off-beat. Combining yoga in the venture makes the trek less exhausting as you practice yoga led by a professional yoga instructor every morning and evening. The terrain is not like other famous trails and involves steep ascends & descends from the very first day.

Not many lodges and tea shops are on the way. The entire route passes by a forested path until you break out of the tree line. The final ascent is steep and goes along the Mardi Himal ridgeline to the Mardi Himal Base Camp.

Altitude Sickness during the Mardi Trek

The highest altitude we touch during the Mardi Himal Yoga Trek is 4,500 meters. The trek begins at 1,950 meters and gradually ascends to the Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 m). As the elevation rise is significant, the chances of altitude sickness are also there.

To prevent it, we have rest days in our Mardi Himal Yoga Trek itinerary, and also, the trekkers do not ascend more than 500 meters a day with us. This helps us to avoid altitude sickness. Likewise, keeping yourself hydrated and getting plenty of rest as you approach higher altitude. It will also keep you away from altitude sickness.

Some of the symptoms you may get at the early stage of altitude sickness are:

  • difficulty in breathing
  • bad headache
  • nausea
  • no appetite
  • insomnia

Best time to do Mardi Himal Yoga Trekking

There are four best months to do Mardi Himal Yoga Trek in Nepal - March, April, October, and November. These months combine the spring and autumn seasons in the Himalayas, which are perfect for any kind of venture.

Spring welcomes blooming rhododendron trees and greenery with it. The fresh snow on the top of the mountains and the hint of chillness left by winter make the journey fantastic. Likewise in autumn, you get to see Nepalese celebrating their biggest festivals. If you are at the right time, you can experience Tihar, Dashain, Chhat, etc. Both seasons have stabler weather, which means no delays in anything.

Food & Drinks

The food and drinks options are quite less on the Mardi Himal trek route. This trek is not commercialized as EBC and ABC treks. The services are limited and pricy. For meals, you get simple toast and eggs, sandwiches, pasta, dal bhat, veggies, curries, porridge, soup, momo, meat items, etc.

Accommodation

Mardi Himal Yoga Trek has tea house accommodation. As there are only a handful of teahouses available along the route, we do the reservations in advance for our guests. Tea house accommodation is the simplest of all the accommodations available in the Himalayas. Small rooms with double beds and a table are what you can expect in tea houses. For a single room, you have to let us know while booking.
